Save your fingers with a silicon handle sleeve

HotHandle silicon handle sleeve

I cook with cast iron a lot, and those handles get searingly hot. Being all ADD-y and all, probably the only reason I still have a hand is that a dear friend sent me a HotHandle silicon holder (I recall that her card noted that it was studded for our pleasure. So thoughtful!). These things are great for preventing burns. Just keep it in the same place all the time, so grabbing it becomes a habit.

This is something it took me some time to learn.

You know I don't think your ADD has anything to do with it. I'm that forgetful too! Since I've given up the plastic bag I keep having to buy more re-usable bags every time I go out because I keep forgetting to put them back in the car. And when I do, I keep leaving them in the car when I go into the store. I have a very large re-usable shopping tote collection and still every time I go to the check-out...DOH!

I don't use cast iron much (it's 'kin expensive) but if I did my hands would be so blistered.

You can't use that for your dutch oven thingy tho - oven goves maybe?

You can put the 'l' in yourself!
I have no idea what a gove is - the result of an amorous fling between a dove and a goat maybe?

Jane, have another look at cast iron - it's never been expensive, even the precondtioned stuff.

By the way, delighted it's still giving you pleasure.

Yeah, a cast-iron pan is pretty much the cheapest pan you can buy ... unless you go the enamelled route. I've been researching these and will throw up some info soon ...
